Sudden Cardiac Arrest (S.C.A.) is a leading cause of premature death but with immediate treatment many lives can be saved.

It is against this background that Caterham Rotary Club have funded the purchase and installation of 3 Automated Exterior Defibrillators (A.E.D.)

The AED’s are sited in yellow cabinets on the external walls of Park & Bailey Estate Agents High Street Caterham and The Chaldon Village Hall.  The Caterham Valley Parish Council have also installed an AED at The Soper Hall.

Caterham Rotarian Steph Barrett who led the project commented, “The equipment is easy to use, compact, portable and very effective. They are designed to be used by lay persons; the machines guide the operator through the process by verbal instructions and visual prompts. They are safe and will not allow a shock to be given unless the heart’s rhythm requires it.”

“We have worked closely with the resuscitation unit of the ambulance service for advice and guidance and in the event of an emergency requiring an AED a person making a 999 call will be directed to the nearest equipment site.”

Caterham Rotary are now planning for a 4th installation and news of this will be announced in the next few weeks.
