Caterham Rotary Club is partnering with Govia Thameslink to develop an exciting project which will hopefully involve the whole of our community as we aim to make our railway station one of which we can be proud.
We will be calling upon local Council groups, schools, businesses, and community groups to accompany us on this thrilling excursion which will involve enhancing the appearance of the station frontage and platform areas as well as creating opportunities for schools and business etc to exhibit artwork, information and publicity to entice visitors to our town and increase local trade.
We have already begun by planting wildflower seeds in the green “triangle” between the two platforms and the “Men In Sheds” organisation based at the Westway Centre, have built two planters which now have flowers and shrubs growing in them.
Rob Whitehead, Community Engagement Officer for Govia Thameslink said, encouragingly ‘Thank you for your interest in becoming one of our station partners. You have many great ideas involving your local community and we want to work alongside you to achieve your exciting aims.”
In reply, Caterham Rotary’s project leader Geraint Jenkins commented “We have made a start and it is now full steam ahead to get all groups in our community to come together and work towards creating a facility we can proudly call The Gateway To The Surrey Hills!”
