A Festival full of cricket
Saturday 3rd August heralded the 3rd Rotary annual Festival of Cricket which took place at Caterham School’s Sports ground Caterham on the Hill The festival offered an opportunity for children to engage in Dynamos cricket which featured cricket training sessions, developing the fundamental skills of the game. Throughout the day, 3 trained coaches from Surrey Cricket Club guided young participants in developing essential skills including batting, catching, bowling and throwing. The young people also learned the basics of gameplay and the importance of teamwork and communication on the field.
Caterham Rotarian and project leader for the event Merv Aranha commented. “The event was well supported and appreciated by the children and their parents, and we are aiming to build on this relationship with Surrey Cricket Foundation in the future. We would like to thank Caterham School for their support in allowing us to use their facilities.”
A special highlight of the festival was the announcement of the “Andrew Patterson Cup,” a six a side a cricket tournament, named in honour of Andrew Patterson a teacher at Caterham and ex professional with Sussex County Cricket Club. He has helped us organise the cricket tournament since it first started and why the new annual trophy has been named in his honour
The trophy symbolizes excellence in cricket and is intended to inspire young cricketers to pursue the sport with passion and dedication. The 1st trophy was won by Caterham Superstars who beat the Rotary Ringers in a nail-biting final that was won off the last ball of the tournament.
