We hosted our 4th Festival of Cricket recently in partnership with Caterham School, bringing together people of all ages for a day of fun, friendly competition, and community spirit.

Held on the school’s playing fields, the event began with a morning cricket skills session for local children, led by Surrey Cricket Foundation coaches Gudrun Bennett and Russ Carter. The coaching focused on encouraging youngsters, especially those from state primary schools, to get involved in the sport.

In the afternoon, the excitement continued with a fast-paced 6-a-side Andrew Patterson tournament. After several closely fought matches, Superstars emerged victorious against Caterham Round Table in the final.

Medals were presented to all teams by Rotary Club President Malcolm Russell, with Andrew Patterson handing over the winner’s trophy.

Event organiser Rotarian Merv Aranha said: “This festival brings people together through cricket, no matter their age or ability. It’s about having fun, making connections, and sharing in the joy of sport as a community.”

The Festival of Cricket has become a highlight in the local calendar, with plans already in motion for 2026 The Article and photos by kind permission of Rotary Volunteer Ellie Man.
