Lunch & Speaker meeting Mark Scoggins on “Historic handguns, a personal selection”
19 July @ 12:30 pm - 2:15 pm
Mark Scoggins will deliver a short talk introducing a dozen exhibits from his extensive collection of firearms, beginning in the flintlock era of the early 1800s, through cap-and-ball percussion pistols and early centre-fire side arms such as the Nagant Gas Seal revolver of 1895 (pictured), and on to the composite semi-automatic handguns of modern times. The guns will be available for viewing in the course of the presentation.
Mark has held a deep interest in firearms since his early teens. He was granted his first firearm certificate at age 17, captained the school rifle team, won five Varsity Blues for target shooting during his time at Cambridge, competed for Great Britain in his early 20s, and has increased his involvement in recent years by adding stalking, sporting rifle and shotgun to his shooting disciplines. He is a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of Caterham and District Rifle Club, sits on the National Police Chiefs Council Independent Advisory Group on Criminal Misuse of Firearms, and is honorary legal advisor to the British Shooting Sports Council. He appeared as advocate on behalf of all the UK shooting sports associations at the public inquiry into the Dunblane tragedy of 1996. He also practises regularly in air rifle and archery.
